Shopping Web Sites

I ran across these wonderful shops in the July 25th edition of The New Yorker.

What’s a Southern girl like me doing with a magazine like that? Well, I may be Southern, but I’m certainly not brain-dead! My hometown newspaper is much too conservative for me! But, more on that at a later time.

Anyway, here are five delightful shops to visit, if only by mouse click.

Love, Liz!

Chilton’s is a family-run company dedicated to bringing you high-quality, classic furniture and accessories at excellent prices. The Chilton name is as old as New England. James Chilton, one of the passengers on the Mayflower, was the father of Mary Chilton, the first child born in the Plymouth Colony. Following the Civil War, there was a manufacturing boom in the North. Descendants of Mary Chilton formed a corporation in Portland, Maine that reorganized in 1905 under the name the Chilton Paint Company.

Today, Chilton specializes in bringing you high-quality wood products at the best prices. You can feel confident doing business with Chilton, a name that represents over 135 years of business commitment to the Pine Tree State.

David Morgan has been a family owned and operated business since 1962. From the start they have offered a selection of items which reflects their personal experience and interests. Their aim is to bring you distinctive high quality items at prices that give outstanding value. Check their quality, check their values — you will not be disappointed.

Pam Foss is best known for her stunning portrayals in bronze of thoroughbred racehorses and a wide range of wildlife. Her creations for the Painted Critter are yet another expression of Pam’s enormous talent. The delightful little chairs, stools and benches she has sculpted and painted, represent nothing less than a masterful fusion of folk and fine art by a true American Master. Pam has also been a large influence on her daughter Mindy Durante who has joined her by creating works for the “Pet Plaques” portion of the Painted Critter.

Leonard’s Direct was started in 1933 by Lester and Hazel Leonard and soon became known as one of the few workshops that could re-size beds and restore all types of antique furniture. Today, they have so much more. In addition to their wonderful antique collection, they offer classic reproduction furniture. In addition to the original shop in Seekonk, Massachusetts, they now have a beautiful store in Westport, Connecticut, as well as a seasonal shop in historic Nantucket, Massachusetts. If you are unable to visit, their Personal Shoppers would be happy to assist you in your search for the perfect piece.
